Valencia, Sunday 19th position for Doni in his last 2008 Grand Prix

After nine months of tests and races, today we absolved the last 2008 Grand Prix in Valencia, on a unusual sunny day and a race track full of spectators (more than 117.000).
This morning in the warm up, Doniīs feeling was very good regarding his Yamaha engine, after some modifications done by the team staff.
Doni was riding on a very cold asphalt this morning, scoring several 1.41s and preparing his bike for the race.
He did a good start and in the first corner he was 21st, starting to push towards the precedent rider.
Doni passed him and start to keep his gap but at the end he made a small mistake and Sandi caught Doni.
The bike was working well during all the race but Doni was not very satisfied with his final position, because he was expecting more, like all of us.Doni Tata Pradita, Rider:
"Today was a difficult race for me because in this GP we had many different weather conditions and today was the first day with dry asphalt, but anyway we got a good setting considering this handicap. I did a good start but I couldnīt keep my position in the first corner, so I had to push hard after this and in the end, I could not get the result that I wanted.
This year I did learn a lot and sure I will be better in the future.
The seasonīs balance is positive and I hope to have a new chance to show my potential in the following years.
I want to thank all the team for their job. They are really professional people."

Kino Contreras, Team Principal:
"Today we finished the season and we were waiting for a better result, but if we consider the 250 MotoGP class level, we did not so bad today. It was a very fast race and the weather conditions were quite different, comparing today with the practices day, so we had a hard job to get the best setting in our bikes.
Doni did a very good start and he also did a reasonable race. 19th position is not a perfect result, but the most important for me has been the teamwork on the Yamahas and Doniīs improvement.
His progress this seaon has been really good and he shows to everybody that he can have a place here in this championship.
I want to say thanks, first of all to Dieter, who I am really missing. Without him, it wouldnīt be possible for me to run this team. A very big part of what we got this year was because of Dieterīs job . Also to all the Team, Sepp, Robert, Stefan, Hamza, Roland, Edmond, Toni and Jordi. All of them did very good and professional work for Yamaha Pertamina Indonesiaīs team. Also to Doni. He has been learning a lot and he had very hard moments this year. I am sure that he will use all that he learned for his future.
I have also many thanks to Yamaha Indonesia Mr. Mulya and Mr. Hidayat, Mr.Gunardi. Thanks to them for giving us this excellent opportunity. They worked really hard to make this dream true and they did show the Indonesian fighting spirit to all of the world.
Thanks to all the indonesian fans, for your patience with Doni and all the team. I hope in the future we will have a new chance to get better results for all of you."

Sepang, Sunday Bad luck for Doni at Sepang

This morning we were very motivated for the race after Doniīs warm up, because the bike was better than yesterday and also because of Doniīs motivation to get a good result here in Malaysia, with many indonesian fans watching, but in the end the race was not fair for all Yamaha Pertamina Indonesiaīs team.
Doni did a very good start, passing 4 riders but in the first corner, he was the last one.
After few corners he did attack again and he passed these four riders again but in the second lap, Doniīs bike had an engine problem and he went off the track.
Instead of giving up, Doni then started a big fight for catching up with the precedent rider who was 15 seconds in front of him and after some laps, he got him, doing very good lap times, but in the last lap the engine failed again and Doni finished the race in 18th position.Doni Tata Pradita, Rider:
"I am really angry, because today I wanted to get a good result here, first for Dieterīs memory and also for all my fans. I started better than ever in this season but when I had the first engine problem I couldnīt avoid to go off the track, wasting a lot of time.
Then I saw the sign board and my team staff in the wall pushing me so I started to push hard. Finally Iīve got him but in the end, in the last lap my engine had a problem and I was very close to not finishing this race. "

Kino Contreras, Team Principal:
"I am really sorry about Doniīs engine problem but like I always say, we are trying our best for get power and these kind of things simply happen in the racing world. We must think positive and Doni did a very good race today. His attitude was perfect. He was very far from Arcas but he fought really hard and he passed him. His lap times were similar to the rider in 12th position and this is very important to me. He is still progressing and this is our main target now, but we are so disappointed, because our goal today was to score a point for Dieter. He knew this world better than anybody here and I am sure that he will be satisfied today with Doniīs performance. We will miss him a lot."

A message from the family

Dear friends, dear motorsport fans.

Sadly, Dieter never recovered from the effects of his severe heart attack in June. He died yesterday, on the 17th of October, only a few days after his 66th birthday. His passing leaves a void in our lives that will never again be filled. We feel deep sadness and pain, but also relief that his suffering of four months has finally come to an end. Most of all, we feel thankful for everything Dieter has given us in his life - his wit and good humour, his joie de vivre, his love.

The passion he had for motorsport was unsurpassed. It became his job for over 40 years - as a journalist, head of BMW Motorsport, TV commentator, and most recently with the Yamaha Indonesia motorcycle team. First and foremost, Dieter loved the whole "circus" (as he would have called it) because of the people he was with and because of the friendships he had. We know how happy he was and how, during both successful and difficult times, he always fully enjoyed his work.

We would like to thank all the friends for the compassion and the loving support which Dieter and we have received during these last, painful months.

Sepang, Saturday Sad day for Yamaha Pertamina Indonesia and all the MotoGP world

Dieter Stappert, 1942-2008

This morning we awoke to receive the sad news of the death of our friend and colleague Dieter Stappert.

Dieter had a severe heart attack on June 18th whiIe he was checking in at Munich airport for his journey to the British GP. Since then he has been in a comatose condition and tragically yesterday evening he died.

Dieterīs passing has cast a shadow across all the staff of the Yamaha Pertamina Indonesia team and all associated with the team wish to send their condolences to Dieterīs family.

Consequently race practice today was not very positive for the team.

In this morning's free practice, heavy rain prevailed and it was only in the last few minutes that the track conditions allowed Doni to achieve a provisional 15th position.

In QP2, the asphalt was dry after MotoGP qualifying and Doni could improve his time from yesterday by 0,3 seconds, but he could not do the same to his grid position, finally finishing in 20th place.Doni Tata Pradita, Rider:
"I am very sorry for Dieter. This has been very hard to accept for me and I want to send my condolences to his family.

Today it was very dangerous in the morning, because in the beginning of FP1 there was a lot of water on the track.
During qualifying, we tested a different rear tyre and also improved the gear box setting. The rear tyre was also better but we must try some changes during tomorrow's warm up."

Kino Contreras, Team Principal:
"I am so sad because of Dieterīs death. Even in this difficult situation, with all of us a little traumatized because of this end, those are very difficult moments for all of the team. Most of us knew Dieter for many years, mainly the german guys who were working with him for a very long time and for me personally it has been a very sad situation, but thatīs life, sometimes so hard.

About the practices today, we all were expecting more improvement, but because this morningīs rain we lost a lot of time. In the afternoon we did improve the bike quite well but in my opinion not enough so letīs wait for tomorrow and hope we will do a good race here at Sepang."

Sepang, Friday Good start for Doni at Sepang

Doni Tata Pradita did a very good first trip at the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang circuit, which he knows quite well due to his last years' Wild Cards in MotoGP 125 and 250.
Doni and the Yamaha Pertamina Indonesia team were working all day to find a good setting for the 250 TZ Yamahas and at the end of QP1, Doni did a 2.11,753, which is more than 2 seconds faster compared to last year's GP.Doni Tata Pradita, Rider:
"I am satisfied with our work today, but for sure me and the team want more and we know how to improve our bikes to get a better result tomorrow.
I know this circuit well and I like it, but the two long straights are not the best for our bikes.
I can ride in 2.11, easily and once we modify the gear box and the engine a little bit, I am sure that 2.10s will come the same way."

2009 Malaysian GP starts for Doni

Kino Contreras, Team Principal:
"Even with a no perfect setting, Doni did very well today and when we compared to his performance from last year, we were surprised. He was 2 seconds faster and the bike is not perfect yet, so if we think about how it was today with the setting we had, tomorrow we will be further in front easily. We are trying to prepare Doni for Sunday race and we will work hard tomorrow for give Doni the best possible bike to get a good result here."

Phillip Island, Sunday After a difficult Grand Prix, Doni finished in 17th position

The Australian Grand Prix has ended and after many problems for the Yamaha Pertamina Indonesiaīs team, Doni could finish the race in 17th position. He did a bad start but after some laps, he caught the precedent rider and started to fight with him.
Doni did very good lap times in the race, similar to his best QP lap times, riding in 37s for several laps.
At the end when he was 16th in the last lap, he had a big slide and he went off the track. Doni couldnīt avoid losing his 16th position and finished in 17th.Doni Tata Pradita, Rider:
"I am so dissapointed, because I was expecting more from this race, after all the problems that we had this weekend. I started really bad and after a few laps I kept concentrating to reach Arcas, who was riding in front of me. The gap was almost 4 seconds but I was improving my riding and finally did catch up to him and passed. I had a problem in one corner with my front suspension and I was very close to crashing sevral times, so I could not make my gap bigger and in the last lap, I had a big slide and he passed me.
Now I want to think about Sepang, where I have raced before and where I hope to get a good result for my fans."

Kino Contreras, Team Principal:
"After all our problems, we could finish another race and Doni got more experience.
For sure I am not satisfied with the position, but I am with Doniīs improvement and evolution. For sure he did learn many things today that he will apply in future races. I hope for Sepang we will receive some engine evolutions from Sepp that will improve our bikes' performance, because there we will need it."

Phillip Island, Saturday Doni qualified 22nd after crash

This morning free practice was not easy for Doni and Yamaha Pertamina Indonesiaīs team. Doni was riding quite well, improving his best lap from yesterday soon and after 19 laps he had an engine problem, which forced him for change to the second bike with only 9 minutes to go.
In QP2, he starts well, riding confident and constant but after four laps he lost the front wheel and crashed. At the end, when he was trying hard, he lost his front wheel one more time and crashed again, fortunately without any physical consequence for him.
He finished 22nd and he was really close to improving his grid position in the last laps but in the end he couldnīt.Doni Tata Pradita, Rider:
"It was a difficult day for me but also for the team. Today I had two crashes again and both because of a problem with the front wheel. It looks like if the front tyre is not working properly and when I push hard I always lose the front and crash. We will try a different compound tomorrow during the warm up and I hope we will solve this problem for the race. It was a pity, because the engine was working very well here during QP2. Letīs wait until tomorrow."

Kino Contreras, Team Principal:
"I am sorry, because this morning we had an engine problem and it stopped Doniīs evolution during the free practice. We are trying our best to get the maximum bike performance and sometimes in this situation these kind of things just happen. Doni had four crashes this weekend and it shows that he is trying his best in Phillip Island. His fighting spirit is incredible, because after the crash he was doing his best lap times within just a few laps. The positive thing is, that his mind is ok and he knows the track better, so tomorrow he will have the chance again to get a good experience for the future."

Phillip Island, Friday New track for Doni and the rain comes again

Our pit in Phillip Island

Looks like this season the rain is following us, because except in Qatar and San Marino, we had wet GPs all the season.
In Phillip Island we havenīt had a very good start at our arrival, when we discovered that our flight cases were not inside our Pit Box on Wednesday morning as usual.
The problem was a mistake by the people in Motegi, when they forgot our material inside our japanese pit, so inmediately Dorna and the MotoGP Cargo Company, Tempora, found and emergency solution and our 8 crates did arrive on Thursday night at 10:45 pm, after the flight from Tokyo to Singapore and then to Melbourne.
All the guys were working all night and this morning everything was ready for the Australian Grand Prix.
Doni starts in dry conditions during the FP1, but he had the typical new track setting problems, also he had a crash when his precedent rider crashed in front of him.
For the qualifying, Robert & co. did a lot of changes to the bike, but in the afternoonīs QP1 the rain came again.
Doni got to 20th position after going off the track and crash again, but this one was with less damage to the bike compared to this morning.Doni Tata Pradita, Rider:
"I like this track, it is so nice, but we have to learn a lot about it and we need to improve the bike setting a bit more. This afternoon in the qualifying I had no good grip and we need to discover why. Yesterday all the team was working very hard during all night and I want to thank them. I will improve tomorrow and it seems it will be in dry conditions, according to the forecast, so I hope to have the chance to do many laps and learn Phillip Island a lot better."

Kino Contreras, Team Principal:
"Even with our bad luck start at the GP, things went not so bad today. Doni had two crashes, unusual for him, but the first one was not his fault and the second one was when trying to get back on the track.
Itīs good because he likes Phillip Island and I am sure that he needs more time to do it better. tomorrow he will."

Today the weather was cloudy and the temperature lower than yesterday, so we had to make some changes during the Warm Up to adapt Doniīs Yamaha to the new conditions.
The bike has been working really well during all the weekend, the best performance in the whole season and this has been really important for Doniīs improvement, together with his good motivation and spirit and the good work of all the team.
Doni got a very good start and in the first corner he overtook some riders.
Then he started a hard fight with the GP experienced Manuel Hernandez, during the first eight laps, passing one another in several corners. Then Hernadez was in front of Doni but only for a few laps, because Doni started to increase his rythm and he passed Hernadez, increasing the gap to 2 seconds. Doni started to score 56s increasing his gap lap by lap until the end of the race, when it was 8 seconds.Doni Tata Pradita, Rider:
"Iīm happy today, because it was a very important race for me and I did a good race, finishing in front of 6 riders. The bike was very good during the race, only I had some chatter problems in the front wheel but I could pass Hernadez, and keep the gap until the end.
Also I was 5 seconds faster comparing this GP lap time with my last year lap time here in Motegi, so I think the balance is positive. Now we go to Phillip Island, a new track for me where I hope to continue my learning in the 250 class.“
Kino Contreras, Team Principal:
"May be the position is not incredible, but if you analyze all the Japan Grand Prix, the result for Yamaha Pertamina Indonesia Team has been really good. First because Doni has improved a lot, compared to the last races. His fighting spirit and motivation has been really good and during the race he has been very concentrated and he did race using his head. Second because our Yamahas has been working really well and we have our bikes, for the very first time this year, in the middle of the top speed bikes ranking, in front of many Aprilias and Factory Hondas and also as the first Yamaha. This shows us that we are working in the right direction and I am sure that we will improve the bike even more, because all the team is working very hard for that."
